Brendan Rodgers Confirms Liverpool Closing In On Four New Signings

Rodgers eyeing four new faces.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he is closing in on a number of transfer targets, with the club chasing up to four new players ahead of the new season.

Rodgers has spent much of the summer organising a clear out at Anfield, with Andy Carroll, Alberto Aquilani, Brad Jones and Daniel Pacheco all told they can quit the club.

However, the Reds boss has managed to make one move in the market, bringing Fabio Borini from Roma in an £11 million deal, but is now targetting more new faces:

“There is a lot of work going on, on a number of deals and hopefully we can get those completed by the end of August,” Rodgers explained.

Liverpool want to bring in up to four new players before the window slams shut, with Joe Allen, Clint Dempsey and Gaston Ramirez among the names Rodgers is chasing, but he admits the valuation of his targets is making deals tough to complete:

“Obviously when it’s a club like Liverpool prices are always increased and so on, but I always felt it was important by the beginning of the season we could have the squad we want – and certainly by the end of the transfer window I would hope that will be the case.”

So who are the four new faces set to arrive at Anfield?

Joe Allen is almost certainly on Rodgers shopping list and it looks as if only the Welshman’s participation in the Olympics with Team GB and the delay in finalising Alberto Aquilani’s move to Fiorentina is holding up a second Liverpool bid for the 22-year-old Swansea midfielder.

Indeed, the South Wales Evening Post – a source with close links to the Liberty Stadium oufit – has suggested that Allen has already agreed a bumper deal with the Merseysiders and all that’s left to be agreed is the fee – with Swansea holding out for close to £15 million for the pass-master.
