White Hart Lane side target Roma custodian.
Tottenham in the market for £8m-rated Roma stopper Stekelenburg
Tottenham are launching a bid for Holland goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
The 29-year-old moved from Ajax to Roma last summer for £5million but has failed to settle in Italy, compounded by the departure of coach Luis Enrique.
Stekelenburg is keen on the move, and the only sticking point will be Roma’s £8m valuation.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has set sights on bringing in a new keeper who can both challenge American Brad Friedel and take over from the veteran in the long term. Moves for Hugo Lloris have been ongoing and now the White Hart Lane side are being linked with another quality national team first choice custodian.
Maarten Stekelenburg spent nine years honing his trade in the Ajax first team but perhaps first came to the fore on a worldwide basis at the 2010 World Cup where he performed wonderfully well to help his Dutch national team to the final in South Africa.
A move to Roma has proven a little tricky, not least because the man who brought him to the Stadio Olimpico, Luis Enrique, was given his marching orders.
Stekelenburg may well be keen on a move to the North London club and perhaps new Roma boss Zdenek Zeman will have other plans, which could help give the 6ft 5in keeper the chance to join his fellow countryman Rafael Van der Vaart at Tottenham.
Current back-up options Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini do not appear to figure highly in Villas-Boas’s plan’s.
