Liverpool & Tottenham Enter Bidding War to Sign £15.9m Serie A Playmaker

Anfield and White Hart Lane side chase attacking midfielder.

Liverpool and Tottenham will have to fork out £15.9million to land Bologna playmaker Gaston Ramirez, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Ramirez, who impressed for Uruguay during their three matches at the Olympic Games, is regarded as one of the hottest young talents in Italy after a superb season in Serie A.

Liverpool and Tottenham have both been heavily linked with a move for Ramirez, with some reports last week suggesting that the Merseyside club had already tabled a £12.5m offer for the 21-year-old.

However, a bid of that value looks set to fail, with Bologna insisting on securing a fee of £15.9m as they are required to pay 30% of any transfer fee to the Uruguayan’s former club Peñarol.

Liverpool had appeared favourites to land Uruguayan youngster Gaston Ramirez but perhaps they felt the same way about their pursuit of Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson who opted to move to White Hart Lane over the chance to reunite with his former boss.

Bologna clearly realise they are set for a losing battle to keep hold of the talented attacking midfielder and now wish to garner as much from his sale as possible. In today’s transfer market £15.9m is still a fair price for a player of obvious potential.

Liverpool obviously have the pull of two of Ramirez’s team-mates at the club, Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates, but Tottenham would perhaps hold a better chance of securing major silverware and Champions League football so the 21 year old may well have his work cut out trying to make his mind up over any potential move.

Tottenham may well be in the market for a creative midfielder if they lose Luka Modric, though clearly the two players are not of the same ilk. Liverpool on the other hand certainly need a flair player who can ably link midfield to attack and have been on the trail of the former Penarol man for some weeks now.
