Liverpool Veteran Craig Bellamy Set to Complete Cardiff City Move

Anfield man set to make return to hometown club.

Cardiff ‘close’ on Bellamy deal

Cardiff have been chasing Bellamy’s signature with Malky Mackay previously confirming his interest in bringing the foward back to the club.

It is understood Liverpool are reluctantly willing to let the Wales international leave Anfield for personal reasons.

The 33-year-old joined Liverpool from City on a free transfer last summer and impressed during his second stint at Anfield.

Bellamy, who impressed for Team GB at the Olympics, has also attracted interest from Queens Park Rangers with Mark Hughes keen to be reunited with the Wales international.

However, QPR are facing a losing battle to land Bellamy as Liverpool are reluctant to let the forward leave to a Premier League rival and would prefer to see him move to Cardiff.

Liverpool are thought to be willing to let Bellamy return to Cardiff for free with the player keen to be closer to his family home.

It seems clear that Brendan Rodgers is very much planning for the future and the departures of Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez must have left Craig Bellamy wondering where he stood at Anfield. The arrival of Fabio Borini may well lead to even less first team football than the Welsh international managed last term.

The 33 year old did perform well when called upon last term but only made 12 Premier League starts under Kenny Dalglish and a permanent move back to his hometown club may well be the best for all concerned.

Bellamy impressed during his loan spell at Cardiff City back in 2010/11 when he helped the Welsh side to the Championship play-offs and Malky Mackay will hope the former Newcastle United and Man City man can go one better if he does indeed manage to lure the adaptable forward to the club.

Craig Bellamy scored nine goals last term from 37 appearances, of which 19 came from the bench.
