Liverpool make second major gaff of the summer.
Liverpool’s in-house TV channel has mistakenly leaked the news that striker Luis Suarez has signed a new long-term contract at the club.
LFC TV broadcast a news clip this afternoon confirming that the Uruguayan had signed new deal at Anfield but the report was promptly pulled after around 15 seconds to be replaced by a ‘Temporary Fault’ graphic – presumably after a panicky engineer pulled the plug.
It is the second major gaff made by the Merseyside outfit this summer, after the club’s US owners incorrectly claimed on their website that Fulham’s Clint Dempsey had joined the club – a sugggestion instantly denied by the west Londoners. The misleading text was removed soon after.
The news of Suarez’s new deal was presumably supposed to come from boss Brendan Rodgers or perhaps have been revealed tonight or tomorrow but the deal has now been confirmed by the club.
It will end speculation linking the controversial striker with a move to Italian giants Juventus. It was thought that Suarez was considering leaving Liverpool after feeling he was the subject of a witch-hunt from the English press and public following last season’s race-row.
Fortunately Luis Suarez does appear to have now officially signed a new long term contract as the BBC are now reporting.
