Magpies could switch targets, after Debuchy deal collapses.
Newcastle are ready to turn their attentions to Montpellier full-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa after missing out on Mathieu Debuchy.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe and starred as the French minnows stunned mega-rich PSG to claim the Ligue 1 title last season.
Toon boss Alan Pardew has turned his attentions to the Frenchman after missing out on his compatriot Debuchy, who is valued at £12 million by Lille.
Yanga-Mbiwa is also coveted by both Arsenal and AC Milan but the Rossoneri have failed to strike a deal with the former France under-21 international.
And the right-back has admitted that he would consider a move to Newcastle but suggested may use the club as a potential stepping on his way to the Serie A.
Yanga-Mbiwa said: “Playing for Milan would certainly be a great opportunity for me, so now we wait,” reports talkSPORT.
“I know that Newcastle are also interested in me. Newcastle would be a great opportunity for me, and I would hope that eventually I could join Milan.
“Joining Newcastle before Milan would give me the chance to mature even more and gain more experience. We’ll see what happens.”
