Peter Crouch Urges Michael Owen To Join Him At Stoke City

Former Spurs striker eyeing little and large combo at Britannia.

Peter Crouch has urged his former England teammate Michael Owen to join him at Stoke City next season.

Owen is a free agent after being released by Manchester United but is yet to find a new club after setting his sights on remaining in the Premier League.

The injury-plagued 32-year-old has been linked with a move to the Middle-East and both Everton and Southampton but Crouch, who has represented the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, has urged Owen not to think of Stoke as a step down.

“Coming to Stoke was never a step down. I was really happy the manager could give me games when I was in and out of the Tottenham side.

“I’d rather play a big part in something smaller than be a small part of something bigger,” the lanky forward is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

“I know Michael has a big decision to make after leaving a club the size of Manchester United – but I had a similar decision to make last summer.”

Crouch believes Owen would be the perfect fit for Tony Pulis’ side and that he get the opportunity to play regular first team football, after being labelled a ‘benchwarmer’ at United.

“At Tottenham we were challenging for a Champions League place every season. We’re not doing that at Stoke but we are building something worthwhile here.

“If you want to play regular football and enjoy playing again, this is a great place to be,” explained Crouch.

“Michael will obviously make his own decision but a player of that calibre would be fantastic to have around the place.

“And the fans will absolutely love him. They were amazing with me when I first signed and they’re still great with me now.”
