Chelsea step up chase for Wallace – report
Speculation is mounting that the European Champions are looking to seal a quick deal for the 18-year-old Fluminense right back and are still interested in Cesar Azpilicueta
Chelsea are moving for Fluminense defender Wallace in a bid to solve their right back problems according to the Daily Mirror.
The Blues have reportedly fought off interest from Serie A sides Napoli and Juventus to seal the £5 million signing of the 18-year-old.
Chelsea have been linked with a raft of right-backs as the Blues look to bring in a replacement for Jose Bosingwa but this latest target is clearly one that the West London side would look to fill the spot in the long term. The teenage Brazilian may well not be ready to fill the spot on a permanent basis but clearly has shown enough potential to interest Roberto Di Matteo’s side.
Marseille’s Cesar Azpilicueta is still a Chelsea target according to this source so perhaps any move to sign Wallace would entail the player being sent out on loan to get experience. Serbian international Branislav Ivanovic is still on hand to help out as a right-back option though he is still far more comfortable at centre-back.
Roman Abramovich is clearly in the mood to spend having already spent a large sum to bring in Eden Hazard and his brother Thorgan, as well as Marko Marin and Brazilian Oscar.
