Arsenal Set to Complete Centre Back Sale: Flop Squillaci Olympiakos Bound

Emirates Stadium disaster set to end.

French Eurosport are reporting that Arsenal centre back Sebastien Squillaci is close to completing a move to Olympiakos.

Arsene Wenger signed the experienced French international two years ago in the hope that the former Sevilla defender could help add solidity to his defence, this proved to be a bad idea. The 32 year old did not adapt well to life in the Premier League, looking off the pace and out of depth, which was perhaps surprising given his pedigree.

Squillaci is a two time Ligue 1 title winner and has racked up 21 international caps but in action he has proved error prone and abysmal. Indeed such has been his negative effect on first team matters that Wenger handed him just one 11 minute top tier run out last term and in that period Arsenal managed to concede two goals and slump to defeat away at Bolton.

Wenger left the defender behind as the Gunners went on their Asian tour so it appears clear that Sebastien Squillaci doesn’t have a future at the North London club and a move to Olympiakos, or anywhere, couldn’t come soon enough for the Emirates Stadium side.
