Stamford Bridge keen on Napoli striker.
Italian source CalcioMercato are stating that Chelsea are to offer a significant cash sum plus Portuguese international Raul Meireles in exchange for Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani.
The Serie A hotshot may well be an ideal replacement for Didier Drogba, who left Stamford Bridge this summer, and Roberto Di Matteo may well feel that midfielder Meireles is a player he can afford to lose in pursuit of the Napoli man.
Cavani has netted 66 goals over the past two seasons but may well be sacrificed by the Naples side as they have missed out on qualification to the Champions League and may therefore need to balance the books. The former Palermo forward may be more open to such a move now that his former strike partner Ezequiel Lavezzi has been offloaded to big spending Ligue 1 side PSG.
Roman Abramovich has already forked out over £60m to bring in the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Marko Marin this summer and there is no sign that the Blues have finished their summer spending. A move for Cavani may be doubly important given that the club’s first choice striker, Fernando Torres, is still to come close to justifying his £50m move to the club.
