Pulis to consider other options, as Owen deal falters.Stoke City’s bid to sign free-agent Michael Owen has faltered, as it emerged the club and player are nowhere near agreeing personal terms.
Former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Owen is desperate to remain in the Premier League after being released by Man United in June.
Last week, the 32-year-old’s agent claimed the striker had a ‘number’ of suitors, with Stoke City leading the race for Owen.
But, according to the Daily Telegraph, the club and player are struggling to agree personal terms, with Potters boss Tony Pulis only willing to offer Owen a deal based on appearances – much like the contract handed to Jonathan Woodgate last season.
Owen, however, firmly believes he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level, despite his injury problems, and is seeking a far more lucrative deal.
With neither party willing to budge, Pulis has already begun exploring other striking options with Tottenham’s £7m-rated forward Jermain Defoe on his radar.
