Tottenham Boss Ready To Snub Jermain Defoe And Hand Teenage Striker Chance To Impress

Portuguese preparing to put faith in Kane.Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is preparing to sensationally snub Jermain Defoe and put his faith in 19-year-old Harry Kane for the Premier League opener with Newcastle next Saturday.

Tottenham have been frustrated in their attempts to sign strikers Emmanuel Adebayor and Leandro Damiao this summer and Defoe is currently the only senior forward on the club’s books.

But England youth international Kane, who was included in the first-team’s pre-season tour of the USA, has impressed Villas-Boas and the 34-year-old tactician is ready to snub Defoe and start with Kane against the Magpies next week.

Villas-Boas privately believes that Defoe lacks the physicality or intelligence to lead the line in his preferred 4-3-3 system, so will deploy Kane supported by Gareth Bale and Rafa van der Vaart, in front of a solid midfield trio likely to be made up of Sandro, Jake Liverpool and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The snub is likely to spell the end Defoe’s career at White Hart Lane. The diminutive striker has scored over 100 goals for the club in two different spells but has always been frustrated by his failure to command a regular starting berth, first under Martin Jol and then Harry Redknapp.
