Arsenal Ready to Sell Alex Song In Cash Plus One of Barcelona Pair Swap Deal

Emirates Stadium side ready to negotiate.

Spanish source AS are reporting that Arsenal are ready to do business with Barcelona as the Catalan side continue to chase Gunners midfielder Alex Song.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to listen to offers for the Cameroon international but will demand a large cash sum plus one of two Barcelona bit-part players. The Arsenal manager wants attackers Cristian Tello and Ibrahim Afellay in part exchange in any move that would see Song move to the Nou Camp.

Barcelona’s new boss Tito Vilanova may well be amenable to such a deal as he could well feel that the need for another steely midfielder outweighs the club’s need for either of the pair mentioned.

Dutch international Afellay has struggled to retain a spot in the Catalan giants first ever since he arrived at the club from PSV Eindhoven 18 months ago. The 26 year old has struggled with injury during that period but even when fully fit he barely featured under Pep Guardiola and the signs are that life is not going to get any better in that regard under Vilanova.

Tello has not been handed a squad number and as such would appear to be surplus to Barcelona’s plans, which is a tad odd given the youngster impressed last term, netting seven goals from 22 appearances (of which only five were starts) and on the whole the 20 year old did not look out of place in the first team attack.

Arsenal have of course seen a number of players nabbed by Barcelona over the years; most recently Alexander Hleb, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas having made the move, and if Wenger gets the deal he is after then perhaps 25 year old midfielder Song will follow them to the La Liga side.
