Toffees in driving seat for winger.
Everton are set to beat their bitter rivals Liverpool to the loan signing of Manchester City star Adam Johnson.
The 25-year-old has been told he can leave the Etihad on loan this summer after boss Roberto Mancini became frustrated at his failure to fulfil his potential.
Johnson, meanwhile, is disillusioned at his lack of chances for the Premier League Champions and was again a spectator as City beat Chelsea to claim the Community Shield on Sunday.
Liverpool and Fulham have both expressed an interest in the tricky winger but, according to the Metro, Everton boss David Moyes visited Mancini personally last week and is now set to wrap up a loan deal.
Moyes had initially met to discuss Jack Rodwell’s transfer from Merseyside to City but, although the deals were kept separate, City have promised Everton first option on Johnson.
Scottish motivator Moyes has promised to help Johnson ramp up his development, after a stagnant 12 months at Eastlands saw him slip out of the England squad and miss out on a place at Euro 2012.
Everton are hopeful that Johnson will not be the only City player arriving on loan, with Moyes also eyeing deals for striker John Guidetti and defender Dedryck Boyata.
Johnson is set to be the second player that Liverpool have missed out on this summer, after Gylfi Sigurdsson opted to join Tottenham rather than the Anfield outfit.
