Ex Liverpool Star Xabi Alonso Linked With Dramatic Premier League Return After Turning Down New Real Madrid Contract

Spaniard reportedly unwilling to sign a new deal at Real.

Europe’s top clubs have been alerted to the news that Xabi Alonso could leave Real Madrid next summer, with the playmaker stalling on a new deal at the Bernebeu.

The former Liverpool midfielder is understood to be unwilling to extend his current contract with the La Liga Champions – which expires in 2014 – and Real are preparing to cash in on Alonso next summer.

Italian giants Juventus are leading the chase for the 30-year-old but, according to talkSPORT, will face competition from a number of Premier League clubs for the pass-master.

The Spanish international spent five years at Anfield between 2004 and 2009 and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be keen to bring Alonso back to Merseyside.

Alonso, a slick playmaker known for his control and vision, would be the perfect fit for Rodgers’ passing game and is known to still have close links to the Anfield club.

Northern Irish tactician Rodgers has a close relationship with Real boss Jose Mourinho, which could help seal a deal for Alonso.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and big-spending Ligue 1 outfit PSG are all understood to be monitoring the situation.
