Arsenal In Talks to Complete £6.2m Belgian Goal Machine Signing

Emirates Stadium boss keen on Olympiakos forward.

Olympiakos striker Kevin Mirallas has revealed that his agent is in talks with Arsenal, with the two clubs battling over the fee for such a deal.

The forward has been in impressive form since joining from Saint-Etienne two years ago and the Greek club are not prepared to compromise on their asking price.

Reports had previously linked the 24-year-old with a move to the Emirates Stadium and Mirallas has now confirmed that there has been contact between the two clubs, but insists that he would be content to remain where he is if the deal is not finalised.

“There is still a chance I will move to the Premier League,” Mirallas told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. “My agent is having talks with Arsenal, those rumours are true.

“Only Olympiakos is in the way. They want €8 million [£6m] and not a penny less. But if the move doesn’t come through, I am happy to stay in Athens.”

If Arsenal are indeed in talks with Olympiakos to sign their in-form attacker Kevin Mirallas then they would do well to meet the Greek side’s fair valuation, and clearly the chances of Arsene Wenger doing just that could depend on whether Robin Van Persie remains at the club or is sold this summer.

The talented Belgian international has made a big impact in Athens netting goals aplenty and helping Olympiakos to back to back domestic titles in the two seasons he has spent at Karaiskakis Stadium. Perhaps the 24 year old could become the latest of many of his countrymen to set up shop in the Premier League.

Whilst Mirallas may well be happy to remain at Olympiakos the draw of a move to the Emirates Stadium must well tempt the former Lille and Saint-Etienne man and Wenger could well do with an attacking alternative even if Van Persie does stay put.

By all accounts Wenger is ready to conduct something of a clear-out and having offloaded Mexican striker Carlos Vela one would imagine that Nicklas Bendtner, Park Chu Young and Marouane Chamakh could well be next for the chop as all three squad players have failed to impress the Gunners boss.

Mirallas finished as the top scorer in Greece last term, with 20 goals and whilst the Liege born attacker is most commonly used as an orthodox striker he can also play out on the flank and as such that adaptability could further cement his chances of moving to the North London club this month.
