Dutchman nears Fiorentina move.
Former Liverpool flop Ryan Babel is set to snub interest from the Premier League and sign for Serie A side Fiorentina.
The Dutch winger is currently with German outfit Hoffenheim but was placed on the transfer list at the beginning of the summer after an indifferent season for the Bundesliga club.
The 25-year-old is now set to join the Viola, who expect to agree a deal with Babel in the next few days.
Newly-promoted Southampton and Tottenham were both understood to have enquired about bringing Babel back to the Premier League but his agent has confirmed a move to Florence is imminent.
“I have received permission from Hoffenheim to try and close the affair with Fiorentina,” Winnie Haatrecht is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
Babel scored four goals in 31 Bundesliga matches last term, but ran afoul with officials and the league disciplinary committee on numerous occasions during a campaign rife with controversy.
