Stadium of Light boss wants to reunite with Etihad Stadium star.
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is still interested in Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe and Manchester City’s James Milner.

This could be a little too ambitious from the Stadium of Light manager.
Whilst clearly Martin O’Neill knows James Milner from his days at his boss at Villa Park, it just doesn’t seem likely that Sunderland could tempt the England international away from the Etihad Stadium.
Whilst the 26 year old may not be one of the first names on Roberto Mancini’s team-sheet he is certainly an important part of the Italian’s plans, which is perhaps not surprising given the Man City boss spent £26m on the former Leeds and Newcastle United man.
Milner appears to have been around for an age and is a reliable, if unspectacular, presence on the field of play. The adaptable midfielder has racked up over 400 appearances since his debut as a 16 year old back in 2002.
Sunderland have not done all that much business thus far this summer and O’Neill has tried, and failed, with at least one bid for Wolves striker Steven Fletcher and hopes to bring in Milner may prove even more problematic.
