Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of sealing a deal for Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin in time for the midfielder to take on West Brom on Saturday, reports ESPN.

The 23-year-old is on the verge of sealing a season-long loan move to Anfield, with Real finally sanctioning his departure after agreeing terms with Tottenham for Luka Modric.

Arsenal were also interested in landing Sahin but it is understood that Rodgers used his close relationship with Real head-coach Jose Mourinho to pip the Gunners to the Turk.

Real were also reluctant to allow Sahin to join another club participating in the Champions League and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso reportedly recommended Anfield to his Los Blancos teammate.

Rodgers is hopeful a deal for the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder can be tied up in the next 24 hours, making Sahin available for Saturday’s Premier League opener against West Brom at the Hawthorns.

The Reds are also interested in Barcelona winger Cristian Tello, 21, and the club’s managing director Ian Ayre is expected to fly to Spain this weekend to finalise negotiations over another season-long loan deal.
