QPR Line Up Marseille Swap Deal

Loftus Road side keen on using Joey Barton to help lure Cameroon international.

Joey Barton nears Marseille loan move in exchange for Stephane Mbia

The midfielder looks set to head to the former European champions with Stephane Mbia, who plays at centre-back or in midfield, moving in the opposite direction.

Barton has been left without a squad number at Loftus Road this season after his no.17 shirt was yesterday given to new signing Ryan Nelsen.

Barton tweeted last night: ‘Heard my shirt numbers gone to someone else. News to me… Just come off the golf course so only just heard.

‘A call would of [sic] been nice. Ah, well life goes on…’

Offering perhaps a clue as to where he will shortly be plying his trade, he later added: ‘Early night for me people. Bonne nuit …’

Clearly Joey Barton is not happy with the manner in which he is being forced to the Loftus Road exit but then he can hardly blame QPR for not wanting to hold on to the misfit any longer. If Mark Hughes can manage to pull off a deal that would see the departure of the bad boy as well as the arrival of a quality international then Super Hoops fans will probably be more than happy.

Having already brought in a plethora of quality signings Hughes is apparently keen on Marseille defensive midfielder M’Bia, a player who has been a consistent performer in Ligue 1, first at Rennes and then at the Stade Velodrome.

Barton is of course banned for the first 12 matches of the Premier League season so is in many ways a useless member of the QPR squad. No doubt the decision to bring in Samba Diakate on a permanent basis and the signing of Park-Ji Sung were probably sped along due to this factor.

There had been rumours that the 29 year old could be set for a loan spell at Fleetwood Town but the FA had stated that any loan move to another English side would not be accepted and a move to Marseille is more likely to excite Barton who may feel it time for another new fresh challenge.
