Tottenham Make Shock Move to Sign Arsenal Flop Marouane Chamakh

White Hart Lane side set to make move to bring in Emirates Stadium forward on loan deal.

Tottenham have made a shock move to sign Arsenal misfit Marouane Chamakh on loan.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is desperate for a striker before the transfer window shuts and an enquiry about Chamakh has gone in.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger left Moroccan striker Chamakh out of the squad to face Sunderland on Saturday – (read the Sunday Mirror match report of Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland) – as they try to set up a loan deal.

Several English clubs have enquired about his availability including Spurs and Everton while there has also been interest from Spain and Fiorentina have also tried to sign him.

But Spurs are the shock contenders because of their rivalry with Arsenal and Chamakh’s chequered career at the Emirates.

Chamakh has struggled to make his mark in his time at Arsenal, fallen out of favour and now Wenger is ready to offload him.

Could this really be true? Perhaps it’s some sort of sick joke an Arsenal fan has cooked up in order to cope with the grief of losing Robin Van Persie? Whilst Tottenham may only have one recognised senior striker that situation wouldn’t really be aided by signing Moroccan Marouane Chamakh, who has managed one Premier League goal in the last 18 months.

Clearly the 28 year old’s chances of breaking back into the Gunners first team will have been hit by the arrival of both Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud and the former Bordeaux man didn’t even make it on to the Arsenal bench of their opener against Sunderland.

Tottenham have been linked with a host of striker targets but have thus far failed to sign a new marksman but Andre Villas-Boas looking to poach a striker on a loan deal from their arch-rivals would be a fairly embarrassing solution to the problem.

Luckily for the White Hart Lane side their only senior striker, Jermain Defoe, did score in the club’s opening game of the season and appears to be on form. Moves to rectify the lack of firepower are ongoing and a bid to sign Chamakh would be a big shock signing that just seems very unlikely.

For their part Arsenal may well be looking to trim their squad having brought in three new faces, with more to come. Nicklas Bendtner, Park Chu-Young and Sebastien Squillaci will more than likely leave the club having not taken part in the club’s pre-season fixtures and Chamakh could follow but seems more likely to move back to Ligue 1 than to make the controversial move across North London.
