DONE DEAL: Man United Complete £4m Signing of Dutch Left-Back Alexander Buttner

Sir Alex Ferguson brings in little known defender to Old Trafford.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem for an undisclosed fee.

The Dutch left-back, 23, who came close to joining Southampton earlier this summer, has signed a five-year deal.

“Alexander is one of the best young left-backs in Europe and we’re delighted to sign him,” United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said.

The Daily Mail states that the signing of the Vitesse Arnhem full-back will set Man United a very affordable £4m.

The 23 year old represents the fourth Man United signing of the summer, following Shinji Kagawa, Nick Powell and Robin Van Persie to Old Trafford and the youngster will offer Sir Alex Ferguson an alternative at left-back, given support to Frenchman Patrice Evra.

Buttner was part of Bert Van Marwijk’s provisional 36 man Euro 2012 squad but is yet to win a full senior cap but will find out soon enough that a high profile move to Man United will soon help him break that duck.

The former Ajax youth team player has made 107 appearances for Vitesse Arnhem, being a regular over the past four seasons at the GelreDome.
