Stadium of Light boss earmarks offers for Anfield duo.
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is reportedly ready to make a move for Liverpool pair Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll as he looks to beef up his Stadium of Light squad.
The Northern Irishman is concerned about his lack of creative and attacking talents and will look to push on with moves to improve that area of his Sunderland squad before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
Charlie Adam is a player that interests O’Neill and he is apparently ready to offer around £7m for the out of favour 26 year old. Stoke City are also said to be keen on the Scottish international who was an unused substitute for Liverpool’s opener against West Brom.
The former Rangers and Blackpool man may well find his first team place under threat from new signing Joe Allen but is apparently happy to fight for his place. However Brendan Rodgers is keen to further balance the books with player sales ahead of moves to bring in at least one more new summer signing.
Martin O’Neill has previously spoken of his desire to tempt former Newcastle United forward Carroll to the club and will look to lure the 23 year old with the promise of regular first team football. Brendan Rodgers accepted West Ham’s offer for the big forward which will lead most to assume that he is not part of the new Anfield manager’s plans.
A move to Sunderland could of course be an issue for a former Magpies man but if no other offer is forthcoming and his place at Liverpool is at stake then perhaps the Gateshead born marksman would consider such a move.
O’Neill will look to land Carroll on a season long loan deal with a view to considering a move to sign the player outright next summer. Last term Sunderland brought in Nicklas Bendtner on a temporary basis and the Dane finished the season as the club’s top Premier League scorer but a permanent move was not forthcoming.
Sunderland could desperately do with fresh attacking options and a move for Carroll could be a tricky one to pull off but that is unlikely to prevent O’Neill pursuing a player he has previously described as a ‘Very fine player’.
