Lots of players shone in the opening week – Eden Hazard, Mladen Petric, Marouane Fellani to name a few – but Branislav Ivanovic was the man of GameWeek 1. Chelsea may have completed the signing of Cesar Azpilicueta but Ivanovic has staked his claim with two goals and a clean sheet, meaning it’ll be hard work for the Spaniard to replace him. If, by chance, you captained the Serb, he would have earned you an astonishing 48 points for GameWeek 1.

Michu: certainly justified his inclusion in last week’s tips. The Spaniard hit the ground running with two goals on his debut as Swansea routed QPR 5-0. Consider bringing him in sharpish, before his value rises…

Joe Allen: failed to make an impression as Liverpool got off to a false start at West Brom. With the Champions visiting Anfield on Sunday, it may be worth cutting your losses on the Welshman already.

Wayne Rooney: year after year Sir Alex’s United have responded emphatically to setbacks. With Fulham at home, expect last week’s stutter at Goodison Park to be short lived. United have won the last 8 meetings between the two at Old Trafford, with Fulham failing to score since 2006! Although a hefty £12m, Rooney is a safe bet for captain.

Rickie Lambert: showed he can hack it in the top flight by coming off the bench to equalise for Saints at the Etihad. Due to start this weekend, Wigan at St. Mary’s could prove easy prey and he’s good value at £6m.

Charles N’Zogbia or Steven Ireland: neither can be any worse than last season and boss Paul Lambert has predicted big things from the assist and goal-loving duo. What’s more, Aston Villa have a decent run of fixtures in the next two months, not facing either Man United, City, Chelsea or Arsenal until the middle of November.

A trusted tactic: do not fear the four-point transfer fine. Maximising your weekly haul often requires shifting players with tricky fixtures out, and those with comfy home games in. Nani regularly collects assists at Old Trafford, while Gareth Bale may be a wise buy as a wounded Spurs entertain West Brom.
