Sunderland Open Talks to Sign £25m Man City & Wolves Pair

Stadium of Light side line up moves for Molineux and Etihad Stadium duo.

Sunderland have opened talks with Manchester City winger Adam Johnson over a £10m move and agreed a fee with Wolves for Steven Fletcher.

Johnson has been told he will not get the playing time at the Etihad this season and Roberto Mancini has sanctioned the move. Scott Sinclair is expected to fill the void.

Meanwhile, Fletcher’s long drawn out move to Weirside is finally nearing a conclusion.

The Scottish frontman has been targeted by Martin O’Neill all summer and the two sides have been haggling over the transfer value.

Fletcher’s fee is greater than the £12m Sunderland were willing to pay, with it closer to the £15m Wolves were demanding. The 25-year-old will travel to Wearside to agree personal terms.

Martin O’Neill is clearly concerned about his attacking options and has seemingly been given the funds to correct the problem and is closing on two players who could very well help in this regard.

Though Wolves have driven Steven Fletcher’s asking price to crazy levels the Scottish international is a consistent Premier League marksman and therefore is perhaps worth somewhere near the £15m the Molineux side are demanding for his services.

O’Neill did bring in Louis Saha but appeared to do so as something of a safety net in case no other strikers could be brought in before the transfer window closes.

Man City winger Adam Johnson could be a tougher nut to crack. The Sunderland born wide-man has struggled to retain first team football ever since his move to the Etihad Stadium two and a half years ago but any move to sign the England international will also entail forking out a small fortune to meet the 25 year old’s wage demands, sure to outstrip any other Black Cats player.

Mancini may well be ready to sell the former Middlesbrough man, especially if as expected Scott Sinclair arrives from Swansea City.
