DONE DEAL: Liverpool Officially Agree Deal to Sign Real Madrid Midfielder Nuri Sahin: Loan Deal Includes £14m Permanent Switch Clause

Anfield side land Bernabeu midfielder.

Liverpool Football Club have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal, subject to the player passing a medical.

Sahin moved to Madrid last summer fresh from helping Borussia Dortmund secure the German championship and being named as the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season.

The playmaker collected another league title winners’ medal as the Spanish giants clinched La Liga in May.

Sahin has 31 caps for Turkey and became their youngest ever scorer when he netted on his debut against Germany in 2005, aged 17.

The 23-year-old will now undergo a medical on Merseyside.

Liverpool became the favourites to land the 23 year old after Arsenal apparently baulked at the percentage of Sahin’s wages that Real Madrid were looking to have covered by any interested party.

No doubt Liverpool were helped by the fact that Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho know each other well from their time together at Chelsea.

The Anfield boss may well have been looking to bring in an extra creative midfield option and Sahin may well be hoping to re-ignite his career after a forgettable first year at the Spanish giants.

The German born Turkish international made just four La Liga appearances last term as Jose Mourinho’s side romped to the title and the potential arrival of Luka Modric would have left the former Borussia Dortmund even further off the first team starting spots.

Rodgers may well now have a surfeit of midfield options with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Joe Allen, Lucas Leiva, Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson, Jay Spearing, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Cole all potential central options. Therefore one might expect a player or two could be offloaded, or loaned out in the last week of the transfer window.

The Reds reportedly offered to pay a larger proportion of the 23-year-old’s £115,000 a week wages, and have agreed a £14m option to buy the player at the end of the loan.
