Blackburn Rovers Eyeing Ambitious Approach For Southampton Striker Rickie Lambert

Rovers want Lambert to return to Championship.

Blackburn Rovers are keen to bring Southampton striker Rickie Lambert back to the Championship, reports the Daily Mail.

Lambert finished top scorer in the second tier last season as Saints gained promotion courtesy of a second-place finish.

But Saints have added £7.5m ex-Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez to their squad this summer and boss Nigel Adkins left Lambert on the bench for their opening Premier League match against Man City.

The 30-year-old Liverpudlian did score during a late cameo but it is desperate to play regularly this season.

Rovers manager Steve Kean wants to add another striker to his squad before the end of the month after losing Leon Best to a cruciate ligament injury.

Kean is hopeful of persuading Lambert to drop back down to the Championship, with Swansea’s Luke Moore also on the Lancashire club’s radar.

Blackburn have given up their pursuit of top-target Jordan Rhodes after failing to agree a fee with Huddersfield.
