I Have Plenty Of Offers, Claims Stoke And Everton Target Michael Owen

Former Manchester United striker insists he has options.

Free agent Michael Owen says he is close to joining a new club and has a number of options to choose from.

Owen is desperate to stay in the Premier League after being released by Manchester United in June and has been linked with Stoke City, Fulham and Everton.

The 32-year-old has reportedly been offered the chance to play in the Middle East but believes he still has what it takes to play at the highest level.

“As with a lot of these situations, transfer windows and things like that, a lot of things happen later on in the window when people are refreshing their squads and things like that,” Owen is quoted as saying by ESPN.

“So, yes, I have been in contact with quite a few teams and I definitely expect to be donning a new shirt quite soon.”

The former Livepool and Real Madrid striker added: “I’ve spoken to quite a few teams and it’s a case of picking the best which is going to suit me and my family. I’ve said before I’d prefer that to be in the Premier League and that remains the case.

“Different things will form the basis of making the right choice: location – it would be great if I could stay at home but if not then so be it. The quality of the team, the manager – everything really so hopefully I shall pick the right one.”

Owen has faced accusations that he is more interested in horse racing than football and confirmed that he would get more involved in the sport when his football career ends.

“Horse racing is something I am passionate about and enjoy but is certainly something I want to keep as enjoyment, even though I have got a business interest in it I don’t want to go any further,” he said.

“Football is what I know and what I do best and I will certainly stay in the football world. I have done my first few coaching badges but I am still not sure whether I want to pursue that or not. There are other things you can do in football and I wouldn’t mind exploring them.”
