Tottenham Fail In £8m Bid For Malaga Midfielder Isco

Spurs step up chase for Modric replacement.

Tottenham have failed in an £8m bid for Malaga playmaker Isco, reports the Metro.

The Spaniard was watched by Spurs’ technical director Tim Sherwood last week and is wanted to replace outbound midfielder Luka Modric.

Manchester United are also tracking the Spain under-21 international but Spurs lead the chase despite seeing their initial bid rejected.

Despite the financial problems that forced them to sell Santi Cazorla to Arsenal, Malaga are not keen to part with the talented playmaker, even though Tottenham’s bid would represent a significant profit on the £4.7m they paid Valencia last summer.

Isco has a £16.5m release clause but Spurs are thought to be unwilling to pay big money for the youngster, particularly with the likes of  Chelsea’s Raul Meireles and Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho also on the club’s radar.

Want-away Croatian Modric is expected to finally complete a £33m move to Real Madrid this week.
