Aston Villa Fail In Bid For ‘New Eden Hazard’

Villa keen on latest Belgian sensation.

Aston Villa have failed in a £5.5m bid for the latest prodigy to emerge from Belgium – Genk striker Christian Benteke.

The under-21 international has scored 3 times in five matches already this season and has drawn comparisons with Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

Villa are keen on the young forward but the 21-year-old’s agent, Eris Kismet, has been quick to play down suggestions that he is the same standard at the Blues winger.

“It’s true. They are comparing him to Eden Hazard but he’s only started one game for Belgium,” Kismet told the BBC.

“Christian has always said he wants to play in the Premier League. It’s no use to compare him to Eden Hazard. He’s not at that level and far from it.

“He’s a Belgian player with half a good season behind him. Genk don’t seem to want to collaborate.”

Benteke scored 16 times last season and bagged a goal on his first full start for Belgium, a 4-2 victory over the Netherlands.

Villa boss Paul Lambert is desperate for striking reinforcements after watching his side lose their first two matches of the season.

The Scot has been linked with moves for Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe and Kenwyne Jones of Sunderland but was forced to concede defeat in the race for both players last week.
