Striker could make Premier League switch after agent reveals talks with unnamed club.
The future of Porto forward Hulk will be decided by “Tuesday or Wednesday” after a spokesman for the Brazilian publicly insisted that a move to Zenit St Petersburg was far from a done deal.
When it seemed Spurs were the favouries to sign Hulk, reports then emerged stating Russian side Zenit had struck a deal with Porto for the transfer of the 26-year-old.
However, Hulk’s spokesman, Acaz Felleger, has vehemently denied that the Brazil international is set for a move to Russia by revealing he is in talks with “three clubs”, while also stressing that remaining at Porto was still an option.
“This report is false,” Felleger said. “On Saturday, I spoke to Hulk and his manager Constantino Teodoro. They told me that what was written does not correspond to reality, adding that they are in talks with three clubs and also FC Porto.
“I was not told the names of the clubs outside of Portugal that are in negotiations, but staying at Porto is also a possibility for Hulk.
“Everything will be decided before the 31st. Hulk has told his agent, Teodoro Fonseca, he wants everything cleared up between Tuesday and Wednesday.
“So that’s what we want to see happen.”
At the beginning of the summer, it seemed only a matter of time before Chelsea secured the signing of Porto striker Hulk as a replacement for legend Didier Drogba. But, despite the Brazilian’s insistence that he wants to join the Blues, the trail has gone cold – until now.
The powerful left-footer could yet make a late move to the Premier League after his agent revealed an unnamed club are in negotiations with Porto.
While Chelsea remain the most likely candidates, a move to Tottenham is also a possibility, with the north Londoners short of strikers and in cash after the sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid.
Rumours of Spurs’ interest was sparked by a picture of head-coach Andre Villas-Boas chatting to Hulk during the London Olympics but the pair worked together at Porto, so may well have been just catching up…
Don’t rule out Manchester City either. Boss Roberto Mancini has gone public with his frustration at the lack of new arrivals at the Etihad so far this summer and it is common knowledge that the Italian is keen to recruit another striker.
This transfer is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on and, despite Hulk’s agent insisting that the forward’s future will be resolved on Tuesday or Wednesday, it could go down to the wire.
It’s worth noting that the Brazilian Olympic star has scored a stunning 54 goals in 98 league games for Porto and would be a great addition to any of the Premier League big-boys, with the possible exception of Manchester United who are overloaded with strikers.
