Fulham And Newcastle Set To Miss Out On Brazilian Defender Douglas

Centre-back to remain at FC Twente, says agent.

FC Twente centre-half Douglas will not be joining Newcastle or Fulham this summer, according to his agent Rodrigo da Silveira.

The talented Brazilian is rated as one the best young defenders in Europe and is keen to leave the Dutch outfit to continue his development.

Twente’s chairman Joop Munstermann said earlier this month that both Newcastle and Fulham were tracking the 24-year-old but insisted over the weekend that no formal bids had been lodged.

Douglas will now remain in the Eredivisie and is set to feature for Steve McLaren’s Twente side in their Europa League qualifier against Buraspor on Thursday.

“We’re not in London and won’t go to London. We’re with Douglas in Enschede and don’t negotiate with Fulham,” Da Silveira is quoted as saying by

“Douglas will be on the pitch on Thursday against Bursaspor,” he added.

“Douglas is happy at FC Twente and will stay there.”
