Bolton And Wolves Battling It Out For £3m-Rated Liverpool Midfielder

Former England under-21 star set for Anfield exit.

Midfielder Jay Spearing is set to leave Liverpool, with Championship clubs Bolton and Wolves battling it out for his signature.

The 23-year-old has been with Merseysiders since the age of eight but has been told he is not part of boss Brendan Rodgers’ plan for the future, reports the Liverpool Echo.

While no deal has been agreed yet, the Anfield club will accept an offer of just £3m for the battler, who made 25 appearances last season and started the Reds’ FA Cup Final defeat to Chelsea.

Spearing has been outsted by new signings Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin and will reluctantly agree to join either Bolton or Wolves.

Trotters boss Owen Coyle is keen to add to his squad and has received a glowing reference on Spearing from former Liverpool assistant Sammy Lee, who is now head of the academy at the Reebok.

Wolves, meanwhile, are in cash after selling Matt Jarvis and Steven Fletcher for a combined £24m and are happy to match both Liverpool’s valuation and Spearing’s wage demands.
