Fulham to Make Late Move to Sign £5m Man United Forward Dimitar Berbatov

Craven Cottage side declare interest in Old Trafford striker.

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov could return to London with Fulham after late bid by Martin Jol

Fulham have made a late bid to overcome interest from Fiorentina and Juventus and end Dimitar Berbatov’s unhappy spell at Manchester United.

United are determined to sell Berbatov after handing the player a new one-year contract earlier this summer to prevent him leaving on a free transfer at the end of his previous deal, which expired in June.

If United fail to offload Berbatov, they face a £5?million wage commitment on a player who is unlikely to challenge for the first team in anything but the domestic cup competitions. As a result, a cut-price deal in the region of £3?million would be seen as good business.

Martin Jol knows Dimitar Berbatov well from his time in charge of the Bulgarian at White Hart Lane and a move for the Man United man could be back on the table as the 31 year old is still to commit to a move to either Juventus or Fiorentina, with both Serie A sides said to be keen on the former Tottenham man.

Though Fulham have netted seven goals in their opening two Premier League matches of the season Jol could still feel the need to replace Clint Dempsey, who could well have burned all his bridges with his West London club, having been fined by the club following his attempts to engineer a Craven Cottage exit.

Berbatov is seemingly desperate to leave Old Trafford and given that his first team chances were scarce prior to the arrival of Robin Van Persie, one can imagine just how little chance he has now.

Dimitar Berbatov made just five Premier League starts last term but still managed to net seven times and finished joint top scorer in the Premier League in 2010/11 so clearly Fulham boss Martin Jol believes that the stylish forward still has a lot to offer and if a £5m bid is made then Sir Alex Ferguson may well allow the striker to leave Man United before the transfer window slams shut.
