Juventus Eye Arsenal Flop Nicklas Bendtner After Dimitar Berbatov Snub

Turin giants turn attention to Arsenal forward.Juventus have turned their attention to Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner as they aim to strengthen their attack before the closure of the summer transfer window, Goal.com understands.

The Serie A champions had initially set their sights on Fernando Llorente, but have no intention to meet Athletic Bilbao’s €36 million [£28.5m] asking price, and the Basques have refused to lower their demands.

Accordingly, the Bianconeri are looking at other alternatives, and have targeted Bendtner after Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov snubbed the Turin giants in favour of Fulham.

The Denmark international is no longer needed at the Emirate Stadium, and the Premier League side are ready to offload the towering striker this summer.

Juventus are pondering a loan move for Bendtner with an option to make the 24-year-old’s stay at the club permanent at the end of the 2012-13 campaign if his spell at the club is successful.

Arsenal striker Bendtner appears to be seen as the ‘next-best’ option for Italian Champions Juventus now that they have lost out to Fulham on preferred choice Dimitar Berbatov.

The Danish forward, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland after securing the move to the Stadium of Light on the final day of the transfer window in 2011, has been keen for a permanent move away from the Gunners since he returned to the club after his loan expired. He has said he doesn’t see himself playing for Arsenal again.

With the news that Berbatov has turned down the option to move to Turin, the Italian giants have now turned their attentions to Bendtner to bolster their attacking options, and will attempt to wrap up a deal in the next 24 hours.

Arsene Wenger will have no qualms about sanctioning the sale of the Dane, whom he sees as surplus to requirements in North London after the signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski in place of Robin Van Persie this summer. But if neither of the new boys can begin to produce the goals so badly needed in order for Arsenal to once again secure a top four finish, the Arsenal manager could regret not holding on to Bendtner, should this transfer go through.
