Manchester United Striker Dimitar Berbatov Eyes Jol Reunion At Fulham As Fiorentina Fume

Fulham look to cash in Dembele money on Berbatov.

Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov is on the verge of a move to Fulham, according to Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta.

The Italian club had been preparing a late bid for the former Tottenham man, hoping to steal Berbatov from under the noses of Serie A rivals Fiorentina.

But reports emerged last night that the Cottagers had stolen a march on the deal, after the Bulgarian rejected the Florence move, as he was keen to stay in the Premier League.

Fiorentina have accused Juventus of trying to hijack the move but Marcotta told Sky Sport Italia that the Old Lady had acted with the ‘maximum fairness and transparency’.

“We have much to discuss with Fiorentina,” he said. “We have acted with the maximum fairness and transparency with regard to the market dynamics. I reject the allegations from Fiorentina.

“We entered into the business over Berbatov when we heard that he had refused Fiorentina, and in the meantime there was a proposal by Fulham.

In an extraordinary turn of events it appears the former Spurs man could be on his way to Fulham to link up once again with Martin Jol, after leaving first Fiorentina, and then Juventus, angered with his behaviour.

The sulky Bularian, who made his name in the Premier League at Spurs under now Fulham boss Martin Jol, before a big-money move to Man Utd in 2008, has proved a controversial figure, and this most recent show of arrogance begs the question as to whether the player deserves Jol’s continued faith in him.

After a protracted transfer saga saw him leave Spurs on the last day of the transfer window in 2008, much to the disgruntlement of the Spurs faithful, he now appears to have burned his bridges in Italy by not only leaving a Viola representative angered and embarrassed at  Florence airport, as Juventus came in with an eleventh-hour offer, but then proceeding to reject the late advances of the Italian champions as Fulham put forward a lifeline for him to remain in England.

While the former Premier League top goalscorer would be an impressive transfer coup for Jol and Fulham, his reputation has been further tarnished by this episode of events, and though it may be that Berbatov is merely desperate to remain in England, his commitment and desire to to whichever club is willing to pay his wage bill will remain highly scrutinised.
