Fulham Accept Aston Villa Bid For Long-Time Liverpool Target Clint Dempsey

Fulham allow Villa to speak to forward.

Fulham have accepted an bid from Aston Villa for long-term Liverpool target Clint Dempsey, reports BBC.

The Cottagers value the United States international at around £7m and Villa have swooped after Liverpool’s attempt at a swap deal stalled.

The cash-strapped Reds want Fulham to take either Charlie Adam or Jordan Henderson – both expensive flops signed by former boss Kenny Dalglish – in part exchange but the west Londoners would prefer straight cash for Dempsey.

The 29-year-old scored 23 times in 46 appearances last season but has made it clear he wants to leave Fulham this summer and has not featured in any of their opening three matches of the season.

Merseyside remains the attacker’s preferred destination but Fulham would rather do a deal with Villa, after complaining to the FA about Liverpool’s conduct earlier this month.

It is thought Sunderland are also interested in the forward but the Villains remain the only side to have had a bid accepted thus far.
