Anfield side to finally land Craven Cottage forward.
Liverpool look set to finally complete the signing of long term target Clint Dempsey. The Anfield side are reported to have made a bid in the region of £9m for the Fulham attacker after Brendan Rodgers made room for the American by offloading Andy Carroll to West Ham on a season long loan deal.
Martin Jol is set to completing the signing of Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov to help fill the hole that will be left when the Texan leaves Craven Cottage.
Dempsey had been fined and pushed out of the first team picture by Jol after the Fulham forward tried to engineer a move away from the West London club, but with just a year left to run on his current contract it seems that the club felt they had no choice than to accept any decent offers that were forthcoming.
Rodgers has been looking to bring in further attacking options and once he had successfully seen Carroll leave the club a move for Clint Dempsey was always on the cards, not least because the Liverpool boss has a threadbare strike-force that is in desperate need of beefing up.
Liverpool had brought in Fabio Borini from Roma but the club’s only other recognised senior striker is Luis Suarez leaving the Merseyside club in search of a new forward.
Dempsey can play in a number of attacking positions and last term notched up an impressive total of 23 goals in all competitions.
