West Ham Set to Make Move to Sign Experienced Defender John Mensah

Former Sunderland man on his way to Upton Park.

West Ham are poised to make a move for Ghana defender John Mensah, who is available on a free transfer.
Mensah ended his contract with Lyon during the summer and is keen to make a return to the Premier League after having a successful season on loan at Sunderland last year.

Though Sam Allardyce has signed 11 new players this summer and seen his Upton Park side collect two wins from three thus far this season the Hammers boss is apparently keen on beefing up his defensive options.

Experienced Ghanaian international John Mensah is apparently very high up on Allardyce’s wish-list and the 29 year old former Sunderland man is set to move to the East London side.

The West Ham boss has only Winston Reid, James Tomkins and James Collins as centre back options and could therefore do with extra support at the back.

It is worth noting that Mensah is likely to be taking part in the African Nations Cup next January and February, providing his Ghana side can overcome Malawi in the final qualifying encounter this month.
