Arsenal Winger Set to Complete Free Transfer Exit: Dynamo Moscow Keen On Russian International Andrei Arshavin

Arsenal prepared to give Andrei Arshavin a free transfer in hope of securing move to Dynamo Moscow

Arsenal are understood to have offered Andrei Arshavin a free transfer in the hope that he will finally find a new club before the Russian transfer window closes on Thursday.

Dynamo Moscow have shown the strongest interest in the Russian international but have yet to make the 31-year-old a formal offer. At the same time, Arsenal have included Arshavin in their 25-man Champions League squad.

Arshavin does not figure in Arsene Wenger’s plans and although Arsenal had hoped to secure a transfer fee of around £5m for a player they paid more than £13m for in 2009, the club is now prepared to allow him to leave for free given that he is going into the final year of his contract.

How the mighty have fallen.

Arsenal spent a then club record on Andrei Arshavin in January 2009 after the Russian international had wowed the masses with his performances at Euro 2008 but for whatever reason the former Zenit winger has never hit the heights during his time in the Premier League.

Though his career started with a bang, a four goal salvo at Anfield just two months after his debut for the North London club, the 31 year old has struggled with form and has at times looked disinterested and off the pace and has suffered at the hands of supporters who have grown accustomed to Arshavin’s sub-standard displays.

A move back to Russia, especially if he is released on a free transfer, seems very likely and though he would probably have preferred to return to the Zenit side he spent half of last season at last term, a move to Dynamo Moscow may also be tempting.

Arshavin has made a total of 136 appearances for the Gunners, of which 39 have come from the bench, and scored 30 goals in the process. His last Premier League start came away at Swansea City in January.
