Brazilian reveals Premier League offer.
Leandro Damiao has confirmed that he had a ‘very good’ offer to leave Brazil, but is more than happy to stay at Internacional.
The Brazilian striker is one of the most in-demand players outside of Europe and his reputation was enhanced as he top-scored at the 2012 Olympic football tournament.
Tottenham have made numerous bids for the 23-year-old over the past two years, but recent weeks have seen Manchester United also linked along with Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Internacional president Giovanni Luigi insisted throughout the summer, and he reiterated it this week, that the club was not looking to sell and would only do so if somebody met his buy-out clause which is over £40million.
The player has now admitted that he did have an offer on the table to leave Inter – but he would not reveal the club in question.
“The value of the offer was very good for me and for Internacional,” he revealed to BandSports.
“But it didn’t happen. I think Giovanni Luigi is a great president and he knows what he’s doing.
“I’m very happy to be playing in Brazil. I’ll certainly leave at some point for sure, but not today.”

Internacional striker Leandro Damiao is hot property. The 23-year-old is already a shoe-in to lead the line for Brazil at the 2014 World Cup on home soil and finished top scorer at the London Olympics with six goals, as the Samba Boys claimed the silver.
But, unlike South Americans from previous generations, Damiao has shown no great enthusiasm for a move to Europe – despite plenty of interest. Even after a taste of London this summer, the powerful forward seems happy to remain in Brazil – possibly until after the World Cup – along with the likes of Ganso and Neymar.
Damiao has revealed that an unnamed club, almost certainly Tottenham, made a ‘very good’ offer for him this summer and his comments suggest that a move to Spurs in future may not be such a far-fetched notion.
The north Londoners have a strategic agreement with Internacional that allows them first refusal on any academy products from the Brazilian club and, despite reported interest from Man City and Man United, this makes White Hart Lane Damiao’s most probable future destination.
It seems unlikely that United or City were ever interested in him anyway. Quite frankly, Champions City, with all their spending power, can aim for the bracket above Damiao. The Eastlands outfit can chase the likes of Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Fernando Llorente – all powerful strikers who have proven themselves in European football.
United, meanwhile, have far too many strikers already and there are reports that Wayne Rooney might be moved back into midfield to accomodate them all.
This won’t be the last time Damiao’s name will be mentioned in connection to a Premier League switch and, judging by his remarks, he might finally make a move in the next year or so. That said, don’t get your hopes up Spurs fans.
