Former Blues boss keen on Stamford Bridge full-back.
Chelsea and England defender Ashley Cole is set for a move to Paris St-Germain.
The 31-year-old has one year left on his deal at Stamford Bridge and, in line with their club policy, has been offered just a single year extension.
Cole has not been impressed with the offer and is in line to move to the mega-rich Ligue 1 side either in January or at the end of the season.
The left back’s less-than-impressed reaction to the one-year offer resulted in the club offering Ryan Bertrand a new five-year deal, as he looks set to be his long-term replacement.
Chelsea’s strict policy of only offering players over 30 year-by-year deals is what lead to them losing Didier Drogba in the summer and it is set to cost them England’s most capped full-back.
It seems more likely that Chelsea would look to make some money from Ashley Cole’s sale over the possibility of losing the experienced full-back for nothing next summer and former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is seemingly very keen on bringing his former charge to the Parc des Princes.
The Ligue 1 side have forked out over £100m on new players this summer with high-profile additions such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura and Gregory van der Wiel sure to help the Paris side in their pursuit of domestic success this season.
Indeed a move for Ashley Cole could be all the more likely when the transfer window re-opens if PSG are not riding high in Ligue 1 come January.
Cole may well be unhappy with Chelsea’s apparent reluctance to change their attitude on new contracts for players over the age of 30 given the service he has given to the West London side over the past six years.
The 31 year old has racked up 267 appearances since his move to Stamford Bridge in August 2006, helping Chelsea to a Premier League title, four FA Cup triumphs and a Champions League success in the process.
