Tottenham To Renew Interest In Porto Midfielder Joao Moutinho In January Transfer Window

Spurs will make fresh approach for Portuguese in new year.

Tottenham are planning a fresh approach for Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho after missing out on the playmaker on transfer deadline day, reports the Metro.

Spurs had a £22m bid for Moutinho accepted by the Portuguese club just hours before the transfer window slammed shut last Friday night but failed to conclude the deal, amid reports of difficulties over Moutinho’s personal terms and third party ownership rights.

But the 25-year-old remains the top target of head-coach Andre Villas-Boas to replace departed schemer Luka Modric and the club received sufficient encouragement from Moutinho to prepare a renewed bid for January.

It is understood that Porto now want Moutinho to stay until the end of the season but will entertain Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who is set to fly to Portugal in the next two weeks to discuss a new deal.

Spurs will face competition from Manchester United and Zenit St Petersburg for the highly-rated playmaker, who has over 5o caps for Portugal and starred as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2012 this summer.
