Anfield boss keen on Benfica striker.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly scouting highly rated Benfica striker Rodrigo as he plots a possible January move to bring in a striker to boost his threadbare attacking options.
Rodgers has been assured by his Anfield board that money will be made available for possible new additions for the next transfer window and the Spanish Under 21 international will adhere to the club’s youthful transfer policy.
Rodrigo failed to make the grade at Real Madrid and left for Lisbon two years ago and though he initially struggled for form, and was sent out on loan to Bolton, the youngster has battled back to produce a run of prolific form. The Brazilian born forward netted 15 goals last term as Benfica ran rival FC Porto close before they lost the domestic title race. Thus far this season the 21 year old has scored three in three matches.
Brendan Rodgers is said to have been seething after his side failed to bring in an attacker on transfer deadline-day, not least because he has opted to loan out Andy Carroll to West Ham, and the Northern Irish boss now has to manage with just two recognised senior strikers.
The Liverpool manager can call upon Luis Suarez and new signing Fabio Borini but may also have to consider using talented youngsters Suso and Adam Morgan far earlier than he may have wished to.
