Liverpool Looking To Bring In Keeper to Challenge Pepe Reina

Brendan Rodgers is keen to add a quality ‘keeper to put pressure on Reina after disappointing form.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to add a ‘keeper to his squad in order to put pressure on long-standing no.1 Pepe Reina to start producing his best form.

Reina has for some time been regarded as one of the top stoppers in the Premier League, but his recent dip in form at the beginning of the new campaign has left Rodgers seeking to strengthen in the goalkeeping department.

The boss believes a lack of real competition for Reina’s position at the club is the reason behind his recent performances and hopes that the addition of a decent ‘keeper would put pressure on Reina to hold onto the starting jersey.

While Rodgers is not necessarily looking to replace Reina altogether it is hoped that sending out a warning shot in this way to the Spanish international will give him the necessary new-life and drive to work harder at his game and get him back playing to his best.

Reina has made 257 appearances for Liverpool since joining in 2005 from Villarreal.
