Old Trafford side to re-ignite interest in Goodison Park defender.
Nani may be looking to prove his critics wrong once and for all and show he’s good enough to be a permanent fixture in United’s first team – but the signs are not looking good for the Portuguese winger.
There have been unconfirmed reports that Nani was offered by United to Zenit St Petersburg and the Russian club say he priced himself out of any prospect of a switch by demanding £200,000 a week – more than double his current United salary.
Sir Alex Ferguson had, it is claimed, wanted to claw back some of the £24m he paid Arsenal for van Persie which would enable him to go back in for one of his top targets, Everton’s England full-back Leighton Baines, in the January transfer window.

It was perhaps surprising that Man United didn’t push on with moves to land Everton full-back Leighton Baines in the summer but perhaps Sir Alex Ferguson felt he had other more pressing areas of his Old Trafford squad to work on but now the Scot appears ready to push on with a January swoop for the England international.
David Moyes lost Jack Rodwell to Man City in the summer but invested well to probably improve his Toffees side on the whole, however any idea of losing Baines would hurt the Merseyside club a great deal.
The 27 year old has become a vital member of Everton’s first team plans, both in defence and going forward and he is arguably the club’s most important player but one wonders if a decent bid was made whether the former Wigan man would push to leave the Goodison Park club.
Baines is seeing a fair bit of national team action of late due to an injury to first choice Ashley Cole and the Kirkby born left-back may feel a high-profile move could help his chances of pushing the Blues man out of the defensive spot in Roy Hodgson’s England set-up.
It appears that Ferguson sees Baines as the right man to fight Patrice Evra for a first team spot at Man United, though Dutchman Alexander Buttner was brought in over the summer but seemingly only as cover.
Nani’s future at Man United does seem uncertain and the Portuguese international has started just one of the club’s three Premier League fixtures thus far this season.
