Emirates Stadium manager to receive extension to current deal.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has suggested the club are ready to offer Arsene Wenger a contract extension as he lauded the achievements of the 62-year-old manager.
Gazidis insists the Gunners’ faith in Wenger comes from a belief that he is the right manager to lead the club into the future, despite not winning a trophy in seven years.
“It’s not a sense of sentimentalism, not a reward for services, it’s a belief that we have an incredible manager who loves this club and is the best man to lead us forward,”
It is perhaps a testament to what Arsene Wenger has achieved in his Gunners career as a whole that even after seven years without silverware the French boss is set for a new contract and appears to be in absolutely no danger of being axed, despite the lack of tangible success in recent years.
Whilst a great many Arsenal fans have rallied against the North London club’s board over the past few lean seasons there has been little talk of a move to axe Wenger, a figure who enjoys the admiration of both the club’s money-men and the Emirates Stadium faithful.
Wenger has been Arsenal boss for over 16 years and has in that time guided the club to three Premier League titles, four FA Cup triumphs and has adopted a financially frugal transfer policy that would appear to fit with the wishes of his board.
Perhaps most crucially in his 16 seasons in charge of Arsenal they have never finished outside the top four.
