Leeds United End Hunt For Tottenham’s Jermaine Jenas After Landing Midfielder On Loan

Stoke’s Tonge in Elland Road loan.

Leeds have ended their pursuit of Tottenham misfit Jermaine Jenas after landing midfielder Michael Tongue on a three-month loan from Stoke City.

The Elland Road club were interested in bringing in former England international Jenas, 29, who has been told he can leave Spurs.

The former Nottingham Forest man almost joined Sunderland on transfer deadline day but the move fell through and Jenas is now facing the prospect of six months on the sidelines in north London.

The Yorkshire club couldn’t agree a deal with Spurs and Jenas is reluctant to drop down a division, meaning Leeds boss Neil Warnock turned to Tongue.

The 29-year-old was considered one the hottest prospects in the football league when he worked with Warnock at Sheffield United.

But Tongue has had a torrid four years at the Brittania, making just 12 league appearances between loans at Derby, Preston and Barnsley.

Warnock told Leeds’ official website: “He knows how I play and he’ll fit in well with what we have here.”
