Liverpool Consider January Move for Tottenham Midfielder Scott Parker As Fitness Concerns Over Brazilian Lucas Continue

Reds keen on surprise Parker deal.

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker and could move for the enforcer if Lucas’ injury proves worse than first feared.

Brazil defensive midfielder Lucas was ruled out for 4 months with a thigh strain at the end of August, leaving Reds boss Brendan Rodgers no time to find a replacement before the transfer window closed.

Although the Anfield club are hopeful that Lucas can return to match-fitness by mid-January, there are concerns that his recovery could take far longer.

As a precaution, the Merseysiders are monitoring Spurs midfielder Parker, who has also been out of action of late with an achilles injury.

The 31-year-old is now back in full training but it is not yet known if new Spurs head-coach Andre Villas-Boas has a place for Parker in his new-look midfield, particularly after the signings of Cint Dempsey, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Moussa Dembele this summer.

The Portuguese has so far favoured Jake Livermore and Sandro in the holding midfield spots and it is understood he has told Parker that he must fight to win back his place in the Spurs team.

Liverpool’s Rodgers is a huge fan of Parker and briefly worked with the player whilst at Chelsea. The Northern Irishman is confident he can lure the heel-snapping midfielder to Anfield and believes Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may sell for a fee in the region of £4m this January.

Parker is desperate to play football in order to guarantee him a spot in the England set-up and will consider a move north if he finds his chances limited at Spurs under Villas-Boas.
