Darren Fletcher Set For Manchester United Return After 10 Months Out

Midfielder been suffering with a serious bowel condition.

Darren Fletcher has been included in the Manchester United squad for their home game against Wigan Athletic for the first time in 10 months after taking an extended break from the game on medical grounds.

The Scotland midfielder has suffered badly from colitis – a bowel condition which could have been career-ending – and took the decision last November to take an extended break from the game, according to the BBC.

He now returns to the fold and Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson also hopes to have new signings Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie available for the tie, but fellow star-striker Wayne Rooney remains unavailable.

Fletcher, the current captain of the Scotland national team despite his recent absence, was scouted as a youngster by Utd and has so far spent his entire career with the 19-times Premier League Champions.

Since making his first-team debut in 2002 he had amassed 197 appearances for Manchester United.
